Wapda blank SSGC 9-0


KARACHI, May 1: Wapda on Thursday completely dominated the opening match of the National Football Challenge Cup (NFCC) when they thrashed Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) 9-0 here at People’s Football Stadium.

Wapda showed supremacy over their rivals from the very beginning of the match, scoring four goals in the first interval itself. And still unsatisfied, they resumed attacking in the second interval, knocking five more goals to reach a total tally of nine goals.

Wapda’s team captain Arif Mehmood as well as the player Qamar Zaman scored hat-tricks while Imran Niazi netted the ball twice with Khuda Bux scoring the remaining one.

In the tournament’s other match, Pakistan Navy overcame Pakistan Electron Limited (PEL) 2-0 here at the KMC Stadium. Nasir Mehmood and Sajjad Ahmed were the goal scorers.

Both the goals came in the first half with Navy taking on a defensive stance in the second while maintaining their lead till the referee blew the final whistle.

On Friday, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) meet Pakistan Air Force (PAF) whereas Habib Bank Limited (HBL) will face Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) at People’s Football Stadium.—PPI
