People want freedom of courts, not individuals: speaker

By Our Correspondent

BADIN, May 1: The National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza said on Thursday that people believed in the independence of courts and not individuals and hoped the leaders of the second largest party of the country would not create any conflicts.

She said in her address an open katchehry in Tando Bago that the Pakistah People’s Party supporters had been punished in past but now they should hope for get good days.

She said that the difficult days for people had come to an end and they would now see a new progressive and enlightened system that would meet all their genuine demands including employment, health, water and education.

Dr Fehmida earlier said while talking to a group of journalists that the project for the proposed big dam had been scrapped after the provincial assemblies of the three provinces rejected it. However, to meet water demands small dams could be considered, she added.

Towards the end of katchehry she was deluged with a large number of complaints and applications for jobs, which she handed over to Khalil Bhurgri and Dilbar Sindhi, members of the committee for solving people’s problems.

About a complaint about water shortage in Badin waterways, she directed the irrigation secretary to pay heed to the problem and ensure provision of irrigation water to the area.

Sindh Home Minister and her spouse Dr Mirza Zulfiqar Ali who accompanied her said that he never believed in the politics of victimization and he had forgiven all the rivals who had dug up ditches for him.

He warned the SDO of Hesco not to annoy people with unnecessary power outages and mend his ways within 24 hours else action would to be taken against him.
