KARACHI: Mumtaz slams PPP-MQM agreement

KARACHI, May 1: Chairman of the Sindh National Front (SNF) Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto has described the recently announced PPP-MQM accord on power sharing as more dangerous than it was between them in 1988.

Elaborating his remarks, he said: “The enemies of Sindh were not as powerful in 1988 as they are today.”

Talking to a delegation of the Awami National Party (ANP) led by MPA Amanullah at his residence here on Thursday, Sardar Bhutto referred to the 1988 bloodshed, and said people should recognise and differentiate between the friends and foes of Sindh.

He observed that the PPP had a tradition of forgetting and forgiving enemies for power.

“It is unfortunate that the PPP has forgotten the tragic incidents of May 12 and April 9 while agreeing to share power with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement,” he said, adding that he had already cautioned the people of Sindh about it.

“By sharing power with the MQM, the PPP has betrayed the mandate given to it by the people of Sindh,” he remarked.—PPI
