MULTAN, April 30: Seizing of development funds record of 90 per cent of the union councils in the Multan district has been completed on the direction of the Punjab government while the rest of it will be taken into custody on Thursday (today).

Local government assistant director Khawaja Muhammad Anwar disclosed this while talking to Dawn here on Wednesday.

He said that there were 129 union councils and six towns in the district and the process of seizing of the record was taken in hand on Monday.

Mr Anwar said that three teams were set up under his supervision to gather the record from secretaries of union councils who had so far collected the record from 116 UCs.

He said that despite prior notices, secretaries of 10 union councils, including UC-97, UC-101 Gujju Hatta, UC Rasoolpur, UC Wasti Mitho, UC Punjani, UC Kotla Nijabat, UC Gerdezpur, UC 1, 18 and 20 from Shujabad tehsil and three from Multan tehsil, respectively, were absent on Monday from their offices, but the record seizing staff had sealed their offices.

Some unidentified dacoits, he said, had tried to snatch the record when a record seizing team was returning to Jalalpur Pirwala after collecting the record of UC-116 Bait Keitch.

It may be mentioned that the record of the district and all six towns have already been seized while audit teams have started the audit of towns. — Correspondent
