Tyre Jee outpaces Gorella in one-sided affair at KRC
By Anwar Zuberi
KARACHI, April 20: Fancied three-year-old chestnut colt Tyre Jee justified the confidence reposed in him by storming to a facile 10 length’s victory to stretch his winning run in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
With two successive wins under his belt, the colt ridden home by former champion jockey, Mohammad Essa, outpaced four-year-old colt Gorella in a start-to-finish bid.
Mare Hi Darling and bay Paidagir followed the two in the same order to complete the frame.
Essa turned out to be the pick of the day among riders as he achieved a rare feat — a double hat-trick — by riding home Abhi Abhi, Marista and Tyre Jee in the sixth, seventh and eighth races and galloping Tyre Jee to three-in-a-row.
Owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara ended the day with a treble including The Karachi Breeder Cup the other two winners being Lover’s Way and Tyre Jee.
Five-year-old chestnut mare Abhi Abhi edged past filly Diamond In Dust by half-a-length in the seven furlongs race to land The Karachi Breeder Cup, a handicap race for Pak horses three-years and upward, which was also days feature event.
They were chased by The Victorious and Stormy Kiss on the board.
Earlier, joint favourite mare Lover’s Way picked up her maiden race of the year when she breezed past co-favourite bay Trust Again by six lengths.
Tyre Jee sealed the fate in the eighth and concluding race.
Long shot eight-year-old bay gelding Khan Jee sprang a surprise when he toppled favourite mare Blind Date by two-and-a-half lengths to claim The Monsoon Cup.
Owned and trained by Sher Mohammad, 12-year-old bay mare Marista registered a three length’s victory against mare Shan-e-Awan in the seventh race.
Four-year-old filly Moon Baby pulled-off first upset of the day when she edged favourite Vice Admiral by one-and-a-half lengths to land the opener.
Similarly, outsider Good Hope beat favourite Desert Hawk by four-and-a-half lengths in the next.
