KARACHI, April 12: Pakistan’s promising Mustafa emerged as sole leader in the Optimist Boys class at the end of nine races on the penultimate day of the inaugural CAS International Open sailing regatta at PAF Korangi creek on Saturday.

Mustafa, who led the five-boat fleet on the opening day, was chased by Egyptian Mohammad Morsi as the two sailors had finished on even kneel with 7.0 penalty points (pp) apiece on Friday.

The Pakistani sailor has secured 9.0 pp while the Egyptian is lying second with 10.0 pp. Sri Lankan Jishua Hans is placed third with 21.0 pp.

Similarly, Mustafa’s compatriot Palwasha leads the pack of six women, including two Sri Lankans, in the Optimist Girls class. She has 7.0 pp as compared to Fabiha Khan’s 12.0 pp and Hadia Khan’s 19.0 pp.

Two foreigners, Ruslan Jangazov of Kazakhstan and Ahmed Ragab of Egypt, continue to dominate Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 class respectively.

Host country’s M. Yousuf and M. Tanveer have a clear edge over their opponents in Laser Standard and Mistral respectively.

The last two races will be sailed on Monday as Sunday is the rest day.
