Govt urged to lift ban on teachers bodies

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, April 12: The All-Sindh Primary Teachers Association urged the new government on Saturday to lift ban imposed on teachers’ organisations by the Arbab government and withdraw appeal filed in the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court’s decision on teachers’ unions.

The association’s central working committee, which met on Friday to discuss negotiation committee’s report, said that the teachers’ charter of demands had been submitted to the Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who had assured that their problems would be solved on priority basis.

The meeting demanded that the teachers of Sindh province should be given the same facilities, which were available to the teachers of other provinces and 25 per cent job quota should be reserved for the teachers’ children.

The meeting demanded that the orders issued by the previous governments sending the teachers on forced leave, their suspension and dismissal should be withdrawn.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: The Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro who briefly attended the concluding ceremony of International Multi-Topic Conference (IMTC) 2008 at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology appreciated the conference the MUET had organised in collaboration with Aalborg University Esbjerg, Denmark and the Higher Education Commission.

He said that the conference provided a great opportunity to the scholars to share views on important technological developments throughout the world.

MUET Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput said that the university had received 134 papers for the conference, of which only 44 papers had been accepted for presentation.

Prof Torben Rosenorn of the Aalborg University Denmark delivered lecture through live video-conferencing while Dr Akbar Hussain of the same university presented a shield to the vice-chancellor.

Prof Dr B.S.
