KARACHI: ATC sends notice to jail chief
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, April 12: An anti-terrorism court on Satur-day issued a show-cause notice
to the superintendent of jail for not producing Qasim Toori in court in a case pertaining to an attack on the convoy of the then corps commander Karachi in 2004.
The judge, Abdul Ghafoor Memon, of the ATC-II had, on the previous hearing, directed the superintendent of the Central Prison Karachi to produce the accused in court on April 12.
However, Toori was not produced in court. Now, the court has fixed April 17 as the next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, the accused, Qasim Toori, along with his associates had allegedly attacked the convoy of the then corps commander of Karachi, Lt-General Ahsan Saleem Hayat, near the Clifton Bridge on June 10, 2004.
As many as 11 people were killed and 12 others were injured in that attack; however, the corps commander remained unhurt in the ambush.
