KARACHI: Four killed in separate incidents

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 30: Three people were killed early on Sunday morning when their car fell into a storm-water drain in Korangi.

According to witnesses, the car fell into the drain at the Chamra Chowrangi as it negotiated a turn. They said it immediately vanished into the drain before its occupants could be rescued.

The police said the bodies of the victims were recovered after the car was taken out of the drain with the help of a crane in the morning.

The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the dead were identified as Mohammed Haroon, Hameedullah, and Mohammed Afzal.

Sources said Haroon, a clearing and forwarding agent, was taking the other two victims, a truck driver and a fork lift driver with him to Godown Chowrangi.

Haroon was a resident of Old Haji Camp, while the truck driver and fork lift driver hailed from Swat.

Area people said a number of incidents had taken place at the spot in the past as a major portion of the pavement covering the drain was damaged.

Watchman murdered

A 24-year-old watchman of a bungalow in Defence was found slaughtered in his servant quarter.

Defence police said that Ameerullah, son of Anver, was the watchman at Bungalow No. 42/A/1 at 12th South Street, DHA, owned by a retired officer, Khalid Mehmood.

They said that the body of the man was lying in the servant quarter on the premises of the bungalow.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Hospital sources said the throat of the victim had been slit.
