PESHAWAR, March 29: Chief Executive of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco), Muhammad Qasim Khan, has directed the workers of the public utility to take all out steps to stop power pilferage, reduce line losses and enhance recovery so that the company could be brought back on the path of success.He was speaking at a meeting of the workers and management of the power regulator held here on Saturday.

Mr Khan said that company’s financial deficit had increased to Rs1 billion due to non-professional leadership of the utility over the past years, increase in power pilferage, line losses and poor recovery.

He said, there were 30 per cent ‘no go areas’ where power pilferage rate was very high. He said a pilot project had been started in this regard, which would be replicated to other districts on its success.

The Pesco chief urged the workers to play an effective role for eradication of kunda-culture from the society so that company’s financial position could be improved.

Mr Khan said that Pesco had fulfilled the employee’s genuine demands amicably. He directed the management to recruit a son or daughter of the Pesco employees who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

He also directed the workers to adopt precautionary measures while working on live lines so that fatal accidents could be averted. He also directed to accelerate pace of developmental work in Wapda housing society, Taru Jabba.

Mr Khan said that all the genuine demands of workers would be fulfilled according to the rules and regulations. He informed the meeting that Pesco was implementing a transparent promotion policy and hundreds of its employees fulfilling legal requirements had been promoted in the recent past.
