KARACHI: Call for probe into death of Indian prisoner
KARACHI, March 27: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Sindh chapter, has condemned the recent death of an Indian fisherman in the Malir District Jail hospital, and demanded an impartial investigation into the incident.
In a statement, Zohra Yusuf, vice-chairperson of the commission, referred to the death of Lakshman, 40, one of the 431 Indian fishermen languishing in the jail, and urged the provincial government to order a high-level inquiry into the incident. She called for taking measures to prevent similar recurrences in the future.
The HRCP also urged the federal government to complete the legal formalities and coordinate efforts with the Indian High Commission for the release and repatriation of all Indian fishermen languishing in the Malir District Jail.
