Sindhis’ role in freedom struggle highlighted

ISLAMABAD, March 26: Speakers at a function here on Wednesday highlighted Sindhi freedom fighters’ contribution in creation of Pakistan.

The function was organised by the Sindh Graduate Association (SGA), Islamabad chapter, to celebrate Jashan-i-Baharan (spring festival) in connection with Pakistan Day celebrations at Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Community Centre.

A large number of people and their families attended the function, said a press release.

National Language Authority chairman Prof Fateh Muhammad Malik was the chief guest.

SGA president Dr Noor Mohammad Larik, Mohammad Yousaf Memon, Abdul Ghafoor Memon, Rukia Naz and others also spoke on occasion.

Food stalls offered variety of traditional food items such as Sindh Biryani and Lotus roots. Sindhi handicrafts stalls displayed traditional souvenirs.

The association also organised puppet, magic, monkey shows, face paintings, and quiz competition.

A musical show was also arranged on the occasion in collaboration with Sindh Culture Department and Deeba Sachar, a popular Sindhi singer. Popular folk singers sung Sindhi, Punjabi, Saraiki and Urdu songs.

The association’s president gave appreciation certificates to the SGA members who contributed in promoting national harmony and cohesion.
