Man shot dead; woman murdered

RAWALPINDI, March 26: A man was shot dead and his brother injured by their rivals in the Civil Lines police area, while a woman was murdered in Saddar Bairuni police area on Wednesday, police said.

In the first incident, Ilyas Khan, a taxi driver, was killed and his brother, Shahid Khan, was injured when their rivals opened fire on them in Civil Line police area. The injured was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.

Shahid Khan lodged a complaint with the police saying that he and his brother, Ilyas, were going to the police station to lodge a complaint against Amir, who had a brawl with Ilyas in the early hours of Wednesday. On the way they were stopped by Raja Shabbir, Amir and Sohail Satti who opened fire on them.

He said Ilyas died on the spot while he suffered injuries. The alleged killers managed to escape from the scene.

In another incident, Nasreen Bibi, wife of Mohammad Saeed, was strangled in her house in the jurisdiction of Saddar Bairuni police. The brother of the woman, Tahir Mehmood, alleged that his sister was murdered by her husband, Mohammad Saeed.

In his complaint, he said his sister Nasreen was married to Saeed some eleven years ago and had two sons.

He said after having been informed that his sister had died he reached her house and found her dead under mysterious circumstances.

After the postmortem was carried out, it emerged that she had been strangled after which a murder case was registered against her husband who is yet to be arrested.
