Maestro salutes rising star
By Our Sports Correspondent
KARACHI, March 25: Snooker celebrity Mohammad Yousuf has applauded the performance of new find Mohammad Sajjad who created sensation on Tuesday when he walked away with the national snooker title in his first appearance.
“Pakistan has found a talented cueist who is set to make waves globally in the days to come,” Yousuf told Dawn after watching the youngster outclass seasoned Saleh Mohammad in the final.
The 13-time national champion said Pakistan badly needed players of such calibre to restore the country’s pride abroad.
Sajjad is second to none and plays like professional, he said, while adding the young cueist will make it to the top if he gets financial support and backing from the game’s controlling body, PBSA.
The PBSA president, Asghar Valika, termed Sajjad’s victory as a “good omen for snooker”.
Sajjad, who plays snooker for some eight hours daily, attributed his success to his trainer, Bilal Mughal.
