LAHORE, March 24: The Shadbagh police on Monday recovered two indigenously-made bombs, one of those was live, from Tajpura Road in Shadbagh area and handed these over to the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).

Shadbagh Circle SPO Shahid Mehmood told Dawn that a mobile police team spotted two bombs lying on the roadside in front of a film-developing shop near a scrap market.

He said that all shops were closed and traffic was diverted to other roads to avert any untoward situation and later BDS personnel were called in.

He said the BDS officials defused the live bomb on the spot while declared second one inactive. Mehmood said the bombs weighed between 1.5kg and 2kg.

He said that not a single shopkeeper of the area was aware of bombs, suspecting some people, involved in scrap business, might have thrown the bombs on the road rather than disposing them of at a non-congested place.

BOMB HOAX: Students and staff of the Lahore College of Arts and Sciences in Johar Town got panicked on Monday after the telephone operator of the college received an unidentified call that a bomb had been planted on the college premises.

The college administration immediately informed the police, BDS and rescue officials. In the meantime, students and staff were evacuated.

The BDS officials later cleared the building in two hours or so. No case was, however, registered till filing of this report.

Found murdered: A 27-year-old labourer was found murdered in Sherakot area on Monday.

Police said Naeem of Talat Park left his house on Sunday in search of work but did not return.

On Monday, Naeem’s father Amir heard an announcement in the local mosque that a body was lying in nearby fields.

Amir later identified the dead man as his son.

He told the police that he had no enmity with any one. The police shifted the bullet-ridden body for autopsy and started investigation.

Accident: A 50-year-old man was run over and killed by a speeding truck in Liaquatabad area on Monday.

According to Edhi officials, Ashraf was crossing the road near Fruit Market when a speeding truck (ST-6368) hit him.

He succumbed to his injuries at Lahore General Hospital. The truck driver managed his escape.
