LANDI KOTAL: 13 arrested over Torkham blasts

By Our Correspondent

LANDI KOTAL, March 24: The political administration on Monday arrested six personnel of Khassadar force and seven tribesmen under the collective responsibility clause of Frontier Crimes Regulations in connection with the Sunday’s blasts which left 120 persons injured besides destroying 42 oil tankers.

Authorities succeeded to bring the huge fire under control after twenty-four hours at the parking lot near Torkham border, which gutted some fifteen tea shops and kiosks in the area. The fire also disrupted power supply to government and private offices and residential compound at Torkham.

Khyber Agency political agent and assistant political agent visited the site on Monday morning and assessed the damage caused by the two blasts and subsequent fire. Later, a meeting of the political and Customs authorities was also held to review the security situation at the border.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, the political agent said that they had started investigations to ascertain the actual cause of blasts. He said that no body had so far taken responsibility for the Sunday’s incident.
