KARACHI, March 24: The power crisis in the city deepened on Monday when an explosion near the Northern Bypass damaged a pole holding an extra high-tension line.
Electricity supplies an IPP to the KESC discontinued after the blast, sources in the KESC said.
The blast damaged pole No. 35 that facilitated supplies through the KESC’s Baldia line. Before the blast, the IPP was supplying 125 megawatts to the KESC.
The power crisis has deepened because all the four units of the Karachi Thermal Power Station are already lying non-functional while the Bin Qasim Unit 4 has developed leakages and producing only 80 megawatts as against its capacity of 180 megawatts.
