KARACHI, March 23: Horses from the stables of one owner lifted The Pakistan Day Cup and Pakistan Ginning Association Cup amid fanfare in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

In a late burst three-year-old bay filly The Victorious overwhelmed favourite filly Diamond In Dust by two-and-a-half lengths to land The Pakistan Day Cup.

Mare Abhi Abhi settled for third place, seven lengths behind while Afroze Jehan completed the frame in a field of seven.

Earlier, four-year-old chestnut colt The Ghazan Prince outpaced filly Moon Baby by half-a-length to claim The Pakistan Ginning Association Cup which was marred by an incident.

Running on the heels of favourite chestnut Sindh Malook with M. Nasir in the saddle, The Ghazan Prince stumbled one furlong from home resulting in injury to the rider, who was rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid.

Though the rider of The Ghazan Prince Arshad was fined for ‘unsatisfactory riding’ the horse was pardoned and declared winner.

Outsider colt Discreet Cat lowered the pretensions of favourite five-year-old bay The Conqueror’s posting one-and-a-half lengths victory.

Following an injury, The Conqueror’s rider Nasir was replaced by Kashif Qamar who carried at least 10 pounds extra weight which cost the win.

Kashif completed a double when he steered bay Vice Admiral to four-and-a-half length’s victory over Gorella in the concluding race.

Earlier, favourites Mukhtadar, Dr Dang, Blind Date, Star Of Galaxy and Trye Jee obliged punters with fluent wins.

Owner Irfan Mehdi and Syed Sadruddin Shah came out with a brace of winners so does trainers Ehtisham, Mushtaq and Gul Hassan and rider Arshad and Essa besides Kashif.
