Provincial assemblies to meet next month

Dawn Report

THE four governors on Saturday summoned the provincial assemblies for the oath-taking of MPAs-elect.

MPAs-elect will take oath of their offices in the sessions and then lawmakers will elect new speakers and their deputies.

In Lahore, Speaker Muhammad Afzal Sahi will administer the oath to lawmakers on April 9.

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan will administer oath to 167 newly-elected MPAs of the Sindh Assembly on April 5 at 11am.

To be chaired by Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, members of the assembly are expected to elect the new speaker and deputy speaker the same day.

Sindh Assembly Secretary Hadi Bux Buriro said that members of the assembly would have oath forms in three languages -- Urdu, English and Sindhi -- and they would have the option to take oath in whichever language they liked.

PESHAWAR: The first session of the NWFP Assembly will be held on April 2 at 10am at the newly constructed hall of the provincial assembly. According to some reports, Arbab Ayub Jan, a veteran parliamentarian, will administer the oath to 117 MPAs-elect.

Usually, the former speaker is invited to administer the oath to newly-elected MPAs. But NWFP Assembly’s former speaker Bakhat Jehan Khan will not preside over the ceremony because he had resigned from his office after developing differences with JUI-F over resignations from assemblies.

QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi has convened the first session of the provincial assembly on April 7. The governor made the announcement after a meeting with Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, a PPP candidate for the chief minister slot.

Outgoing Speaker Jamal Shah Kakar would administer the oath to newly-elected MPAs.
