KARACHI, March 22: Top seed Mustafa Zaidi was knocked out of the title race when he went down fighting to Adil Kohari in three-set boys U-15 singles semi-final in the third Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the Beach View Club on Saturday.

Zaidi, who won the title in same age category of the second Sindh ranking tournament held earlier this month, though came back and drew level after conceding the opener but could not maintain and lost the decisive set. Adil won the battle 7-5, 0-6, 6-2.

Meanwhile, second seed Asfand Rauf and sixth seed Zuhair Raza set a date for the men’s singles title battle after chalking up straight victories over their opponent’s in semis.Rauf had a convincing 6-1, 6-1 sailing over third seed Robin Das while Zuhair struggled to beat Mohammad Abdul Saeed 7-5, 6-3.

Results:

Men’s singles semi-finals: Syed Zuhair Raza bt Mohammad Abdul Saeed 7-5, 6-3; Asfand Rauf bt Robin Das 6-1, 6-1.

Juniors U-17 singles quarter-finals: Talha Saeed bt Asadullah 6-2, 6-1; Omer Shahid bt Nameer Shamsi 6-3, 6-4.

Boys U-15 singles quarter-finals: Abdul Rehman bt Sameer Tayyab 6-2, 6-2; Mustafa Zaidi bt Hamza Saeed 6-0, 6-1; Adil Kohari bt Yayha Essa 6-1, 6-1.

Semi-final: Adil Kohari bt Mustafa Zaidi 7-5, 0-6, 6-2.

Boys U-11 singles pro-set final: Fraz Ahmed Faiz bt Talha Saeed 8-3.

Sunday’s fixtures:

Juniors U-17 singles semi-finals, boys U-15 singles semi-finals at 9.00am; boys U-13 singles final at 11.00am.
