GUJRAT, March 22: Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) district president and known physician Dr Mahmoodul Hassan Kunjahi and his sister were killed while three others, including his two sons, sustained injuries in an accident on GT Road near Kamoki on Saturday.

Reports said that Dr Kunjahi along with his family was going to Lahore to attend a party meeting. Near Chianwali in Kamoki, his speeding car went out of control and hit a truck from the rear. Consequently, Dr Kunjahi and his sister Surraya Bibi died on the spot while his sons Hassan and Qamar and friend Asim suffered injuries. Qamar was shifted to a Lahore hospital in critical condition.

The late Dr Kunjahi had contested against PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on a PAT ticket from NA-105 in 2002 elections.

Also a poet, he was the nephew of renowned Punjabi poet late Prof Sharif Kunjahi and a close relative of columnist Munno Bhai.

A large number of people from all walks of life attended the funeral prayers of Dr Kunjahi and his sister. They were laid to rest at a local graveyard.

In his telephonic address with funeral participants from Canada, PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri expressed his condolences on the deaths of Dr Kunjahi and his sister.

Qul will be held on Sunday (today) at 10am in Jamia Mosque Haji Sahib near Shahdaula shrine.
