LAHORE, March 19: The Punjab University has decided to disburse Rs60 million scholarships among 5,000 students of the university this year. As many as 2,500 scholarships will be given to distinguished students and the remaining 2,500 to needy students. The university has also decided to enhance the scholarship amount for each student from Rs9,000 to Rs12,000. Moreover, evening students studying in second year or third semester have also been allowed to apply for merit scholarships.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of the PU Scholarship Committee with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran in the chair. The committee's secretary Abdus Satar Jajja and members Prof Dr Chaudhry Jamil Anwar, Porf Dr Arif Butt, Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Prof Dr Shahida Husnain, Prof Dr Liaquat Ali, Prof Dr Khwaja Amjad Saeed and Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that timely distribution of scholarships among needy students must be ensured so that they could continue their education without any disturbance. He said the Scholarship Committee had decided to allow evening students to apply for merit scholarships after consulting all committee members.

Dr Mansoori said that scholarship sources could be increased by collaborating with the industry. The VC and other committee members agreed to work in this direction.
