KARACHI: ‘Rs171m to be spent on vocational training’
KARACHI, March 19: Sindh Secretary for Labour, Transport, Industries and Commerce Rasool Bux Phulpoto said on Wednesday that Rs171 million would be spent on imparting vocational training to youths with the assistance of donor agencies.
He was talking to Alexis Hoyaux of the European Commission and Trevor Riordan of the International Labour Organisation who called on him in his office here on Wednesday.
Mr Phulpoto said it was essential to impart training to jobless youths in various trades to enable them to acquire knowledge and develop skills in their fields of interest.
“Establishment of the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Stevta) is a vital step in this regard,” he pointed out.
He said that one of the factors contributing to unemployment in the province was a lack of technical skills among the youth, who were unable to get a job despite having formal education.
Stevta Managing Director Karim Bux Siddqui said that jobless youths would be trained in 53 trades and a stipend of Rs2,000 per month would be paid to them during the training.
The envoys hoped that the province would get skilled workforce through the project.—PPI
