KARACHI, March 18: The Karachi University faculty have appealed to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, who is also the chancellor of the institution, to ask the Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) that the campus be exempted from load-shedding so that teaching process should continue without any interruption.

A request to this effect was made to the governor in an open letter signed by the secretary of the Karachi University Teachers Society, Dr Abid Hasnain.

The letter stated that power load-shedding was not only affecting the teaching process at the campus but also damaging chemicals and equipment worth millions of rupees in laboratories of various departments.

It was pointed out that the University of Karachi was the biggest seat of higher learning in the country with an enrolment of more than 20,000 students and over 5,000 academic and non-teaching staff at its disposal.

It was observed that there should be a difference between educational institutions and industries as far as power load-shedding was concerned.

Like other facilities at the university, provision of uninterrupted power supply, too, was essential so that teachers could continue their noble profession and educate students without any disruption.

The KUTS appealed to the governor to ensure that the campus be exempted from load-shedding.

Paper rescheduled

The university’s examination department has rescheduled the paper of Ethics and Administration of BS Physiotherapy.

The paper earlier scheduled for March 20 will now be held on April 3. However, the timing and centre of paper will remain unchanged.

It is pertinent to mention that the governor has recently declared holiday on March 20.

BEd suppl exam

The University of Karachi, meanwhile, announced that examination forms and fee of the BEd (morning and evening) supplementary examinations 2007 would be accepted from students at their respective colleges from March 19.

It was notified that college students could submit the prescribed fee of Rs2,000 along with the examination forms at their respective colleges till March 29.

Urdu varsity fee

The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) directed the students admitted to the evening programmes to deposit their fees by March 24.

There will be no extension in the date for submission of the fee.—APP/PPI
