No-trust move against nazim adjourned

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, March 17: The no-confidence motion against the District Nazim Sukkur could not be presented in District Council on Monday due to the lack of quorum and was adjourned to April 1.

Two women councillors of the District Council had filed a petition in the Sindh High Court Bench, Sukkur stating that they wanted to move ‘no confidence’ against District Nazim Sukkur Syed Nasir Hussain Shah but the meeting was not being convened, therefore the Division Bench of the Sindh High Court ordered Convener Abdullah Ghumro to convene a meeting of the Council on March 17.

On Monday, the meeting was summoned and PPPP Awam Dost member Syed Naseem Abbas Shah drew the attention of Convener to the quorum who adjourned the meeting till April 1, 2008.

Abdullah Ghumro told newsmen that the responsibility of quorum was of those wanting to move no-confidence motion against the District Nazim.

Addressing a press conference at the Sukkur House on Monday, former federal minister and member CEC PPPP Islamuddin Shaikh said the PPPP did not want to present no-confidence move against the PML (Q) backed District Nazim rather he himself initiated the move to perpetuate the tenure for another year. He said this will not happen as the Awam Dost Councillors will present no-confidence move against him in the next meeting.

Islamuddin Shaikh made it clear that they did not believe in politics of revenge though in the past the PML government resorted to it against PPPP leaders and workers. He said even the District Nazim Sukkur began political victimization against Awam Dost Nazims, Naib Nazims and Councillors.

He claimed 18 members of Khushaal Pakistan and Mahar groups joined the Awam Dost Panel and now the strength was of 40 members in the District Council which was sufficient for moving no-confidence motion against the District Nazim. He further said the Awam Dost Panel members would move no-confidence motion against the District Nazim Sukkur on April 1 with the confidence the move would prove successful. He said to also move no-confidence motions against Taluka nazims of Sukkur city, Rohri and Pano Aqil, shortly.
