KARACHI, March 16: Fancied four-year-old chestnut colt Mr Mention Not shrugged off the challenge from rivals by returning with flying colours to make it two on trot in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden by Sohail Ahmed, he beat co-favourite colt Sher Khan by one-and-a-half lengths to oblige punters. Fillies Shu Manter and Guess It’s Me occupied the next two places on the board.

Making amends, four-year-old chestnut filly Sahibzadi toppled favourite filly Taizper by two lengths to land the feature event. By steering her to triumph, its rider Fahim K. denied Taizper to complete a hat-trick.

Colt Lion Of Arab settled for third, seven lengths behind, while colt Dark secret completed the frame finishing seven-and-a-half lengths further away.

Fahim had earlier partnered filly Moon Baby to a facile three-and-a-half length’s victory in a start-to-finish bid to complete a magnificent double.

Moon Baby who completed a hat-trick toppled favourite colt Gorella by three-and-a-half lengths for the glory.

Backed by connection, odds-on-favourite Terrorist edged bay Rokara by four-and-a-half lengths to claim supporting event.

They were followed by Thanks Naeem and Bullet Of Arab.

Three favourites — Desperado, Canon Ball and Blind Date — and a joint favourite Star Of Galaxy romped home in the remaining four races.

Meanwhile, in a development, the KRC management has increased tax on ‘winning’ amount from five to eight per cent and enforced it from Sunday.

The step is aimed at avoiding confrontation with the racegoers who made a hue and cry following an announcement of five per cent advance tax on each and every betting last weekend.
