PBC not to suspend lawyers movement

ISLAMABAD, March 16: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Sunday by a majority decision rejected the proposal to discontinue lawyers’ movement ahead of a promised parliamentary solution to the restoration of pre-emergency judiciary.

In a statement issued here, the PBC further committed that a call of protest at the national level would be made with its approval.

The council welcomed the Murree Declaration signed by the two major political parties with a pledge to restore the sacked judges of the superior courts to the November 2, 2007 position.

The statement said the PBC hoped and expected that both the political parties would honour their pledge within 30 days of formation of the government.

However, if declaration was subverted, the lawyers would respond with unity to reinforce its movement of protest and agitation for restoration of the judges, the statement

added.— Staff Reporter
