KARACHI: Notice issued over delay in flyover construction


KARACHI, March 15: Taking notice of an inordinate delay in the construction of the Nagan Chowrangi flyover level-I and II, the city nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to the contractors M/s Maqbool Friends and project consultant M/s Engineering Associates.

According to a CDGK press release, all the contracting firms have been warned against unnecessary delays in the ongoing uplift projects. Otherwise, the city government would take stern action against those firms, which included imposition of a fine and a complete ban on the award of other contracts in the future and publicising it through the media, it said.

The city nazim during his visits to various uplift projects had directed the relevant firms to undertake the construction work in day and night shifts.

However, it has been observed that the companies stopped the work during the nights, resulting in unnecessary delay.

Rs13.5m property tax

The Site Town has earned Rs13.5 million on account of property and business taxes against last year’s Rs1.7 million.

Briefing Town Nazim Izharuddin Ahmed Khan, ATO Azam Baloch said that the town had raised the fee of obtaining no-objection certificates for the installation of CNG stations.

He said that the town collected Rs1.6 million per year for the issuance of NOCs for the installation of CNG stations and mobile phone towers.

According to Mr Baloch, some 200 cases are pending in courts and the town hopes to have more recoveries after these cases are decided. The junk shops in Shershah have also been issued notices and revenue is also expected from there.

500 volunteers

Jamshed Town nazim has said that as many as 500 volunteers will be trained to assist police and other law-enforcement agencies to ensure security during Eid Milad celebrations. He said this during a meeting to review security measures for Eid Milad at his office.—Agencies
