Protest against police excess

LARKANA, March 10: Residents of Nasirabad demonstrated police excess and arrest of two persons instead of four alleged thieves, on Monday. They staged sit-in outside the police station.

Police broke into the homes of Hakim Ali and Zahid Ali Channa in Noonari locality in Nasirabad and after manhandling women whisked away Zahid Ali and Hakim Ali Channa to police station.

People were infuriated at the incidence and took out procession and staged sit-in outside the police station. They were demanding the release of two.

The police resorted to baton-charge and fired in air said report from Nasirabad. Nangar Channa and Shabir Channa who were leading the procession received baton injuries which further complicated the situation.

The SHO Manzoor Chandio arrived at the scene and after negotiations released the arrested persons. Protestors later ended the sit-in.

Sources told Dawn that police was searching for Sikandar Noonari, Raja and Sardar Chandio involved in the theft case of Ahmed Ali Bhutto, school teacher when it entered into the homes of the alleged thieves’ relatives. It triggered protest as they had nothing to do with the thieves.
