Taizper repeats her winning act at KRC

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, March 9: In a late burst, favourite Taizper overtook the front runners to justify the confidence reposed in her by claiming feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Running on the heels of colt Discreet Cat the four-year-old bay filly eased past him after getting into straight for home to register two-and-a-half length’s victory for a repeat performance.

The filly from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara was saddled by Allah Judrio and ridden by Zaki Zakir. Filly Sahibzadi and mare Voo Doo Doll completed the board.

Apart from Taizper’s win, the trio of owner-rider-trainer (Irfan Mehdi, Arshad, G. Hassan) have a field day as they walked away with a treble.

Their first success came in the second race when outsider colt Sing Sing partnered by Arshad outpaced odds-on-favourite colt Tube Jee by two lengths.

In the next, Arshad steered favourite four-year-old chestnut colt The Ghazan Prince to three-quarter-of-a-length’s victory over Sharp Cat while he completed the feat when joint favourite colt With Interest beat mare Taneez by a short head verdict in the fifth.

Champion rider Ghulam Shabbir II presented owner Syed Sadruddin Shah with a winner when he powered seven-year-old favourite mare Blind Date to a magnificent 12 length’s victory over colt Walayat in the concluding race.

Earlier, four-year-old chestnut colt Mr Mention Not pulled off the first upset of the day when he got the better of public fancy filly Jadu Jantar by six lengths to land the opener.

The first race of the day started about an hour behind schedule following public resentment against the abrupt KRC move for making five per cent tax mandatory in advance on the betting amount.

The programme finally commenced after implementation of the tax was deferred.
