Demo for missing persons

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, March 9: Relatives of missing persons participated in a demonstration outside the residence of Supreme Court Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan at the start of black flag week on Sunday.

Unlike the rest of the protesters, who gathered under the banner of Concerned Citizens of Pakistan, the families of the missing persons stood in silence and held aloft the pictures of their sons, husbands and brothers.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had been heading a Supreme Court bench hearing the cases of missing persons when a sizeable number of apex court judges were deposed in the wake of Nov 3 Provisional Constitution Order. The case was believed to be the main reason behind imposition of emergency, as missing persons were allegedly in the detention of law-enforcement agencies without due process of law and some of them had been released on the directives of the Supreme Court.

The missing persons’ kin also remained aloof to a short script the students performed regarding the Supreme Court's insistence on production of missing person in apex court and the reluctance of agencies’ officials to concede any information on the subject.
