KARACHI: ‘Parliament to decide fate of LG system’

KARACHI, March 9: Care-taker Sindh Minister for Local Government and Katchi Abadis Syed Saleem Ahmed Zaidi has said that parliament is the appropriate forum to decide issues like the fate of local government system.

There was no truth in such reports that the present local government system was being abolished, he said, observing that to wind up the system and its related bodies would be a gross injustice to the masses. The system, which had constitutional cover, could not be abolished on the desire of any political party, group or individual, he said.

He further said that institutions working under the local government system had also been helpful in providing all basic amenities to general public in water, sanitation, health, education, parks and roads sectors.

The minister expressed these views while inspecting cleanliness in Jamshed, Gulshan, Gulberg, North Nazimabad and Site towns here on Sunday. He appreciated the overall cleanliness steps taken by the town administrations and ordered that night sweeping be started to improve the situation.—APP/PPI
