GUJRANWALA, March 8: The Federal Investigation Agency claimed on Saturday to have arrested a human agent after a brief encounter at Copra, Sialkot and brought him here.
On a tip-off that Akhtar alias Baba was present at his house, a team, led by inspector Rao Nasirullah, raided the village and asked him to surrender. But he along with his accomplices Amjad and Arshad started firing. During crossfire, the team arrested him.
FIA additional-director Husain Asghar said Baba was wanted in 41 cases of human smuggling for the last five years.
He said eight people were shot dead by border security force in Turkey last year who were sent by him illegally.
ROBBERY: Four dacoits looted the house of an industrialist and decamped with cash, jewellery and foreign currency worth Rs3.5 million at Wazirabad on Saturday.
Reports said the outlaws forced their entry into the house of Muhammad Younis in Allahabad locality by scaling the boundary wall. They held hostage the inmates and made off with cash, gold jewellery, foreign currency and other valuables worth Rs3.5 million. They locked the house before fleeing and resorted to aerial firing.
Later, scores of businessmen protested against the police for not controlling the incidence of robberies.
SIALKOT CASE: The local anti-terrorism court No 1 on Saturday continued the hearing of the Sialkot jail incident case and recorded the statement of police inspector Asad Rashid.
Complainant Ghulam Abbas Bukhari, father of slain judge Sheharyar Bukhari, requested the court to seek the fact-finding report which was prepared by an inquiry team of the Lahore High Court after the incident.
The court adjourned the case till March 15 and issued notices to DSP Tariq and police officer Waqar Hayat for recording their evidence on the same day.
