GHALLANAI, March 8: The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a food scheme for primary schools in Fata in which biscuits, cooking oil and flour will be distributed among the needy students.

This programme has been started on experimental basis initially in a few selected tehsils of Mohmand and Khyber agencies under the auspices of the director of education, Fata.

Mohmand Agency Education Officer, Haji Hasham Khan, organiser of the Mohmand chapter of the programme, told Dawn that the scheme would be started in three tehsils namely Ghallanai, Ekka Ghund and Prang Ghar on experimental basis for six months and would be extended to the entire agency for five years, later on.

Under the scheme, a flour bag of 25 kg will be provided to each student after two months, a four liter cane of cooking oil a month and one packet of biscuit a day.

The WFP has recently introduced such schemes in the neighboring Afghanistan.
