Restructuring cell for sick units

KARACHI, March 8: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) to set up a restructuring cell for sick units.

In a statement here on Saturday, Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver said many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) need skilful management with proper scientific applications of management, marketing, accounting and engineering techniques.

“It will be beneficial if Smeda can offer restructuring help to such units who are incurring losses due to shortcomings in various fields of management,” he noted.

He said that the Unisame was also requesting the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Engineering Development Board (EDB) and National Productivity Organisation (NPO) to come forward and offer their expertise to the sick units for revival as the establishment of new units is very costly due to increase in prices of machinery and equipment and with the help of the above institutions, the sick units can once again become profitable.—APP
