KARACHI, March 7: Mauripur Baloch edged past Karachi United 2-1 in the final game of the KASB Premier League soccer’s first phase to finish at top in their group and qualify for Super League Phase on Thursday.

United, however, also qualified for the Super League Phase by finishing third in the Captain Omar Group.

The winners opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Mohammed, while Qasim doubled the lead eight minutes later after some fine dribbling from the left.

United fought hard in the second half to reduce margin when Shahab Raza headed home in the 60th minute following a Shahrukh Chaudhary cross.

Mauripur Baloch and United are joined in the Super League Phase by Hyderi Baloch and Baloch Mujahid from Captain Omar Group, and Hazara Mohammadan, Korangi Rangers, Usmanabad Union and Shahzad Mohammadan from Moosa Ghazi Group.

The expanded format of this year’s League will see the Super League teams playing each other once each with the winners crowned as champions.
