LAHORE, March 6: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Zahid Husain dismissed a petition on Thursday challenging the alleged detention of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry along with his family in Islamabad.

Petitioner Tariq Aziz Malik sought the release of the deposed chief justice, but the registrar office objected to the plea, saying the petition should be filed before the Islamabad High Court.

On Thursday, the petition was placed before the LHC chief justice as an objection case. The petitioner said the principal seat of the Lahore High Court had the power to hear the matter as laid down in 1197 SCMR (1847), 2000 SCMR (1700).

The chief justice, however, sustained the objection and dismissed the plea. The petitioner made the federal government and federal secretaries of interior, establishment and the law as respondents.

According to the petition, Justice Chaudhry has been detained against the constitution.

Kashmir Singh: The Lahore High Court returned a petition challenging release of an Indian national, Kashmir Singh, from Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore, after the President Pervez Musharraf granted him a pardon.
