PESHAWAR: Weapons recovered

PESHAWAR, March 6: The city police on Thursday claimed to have foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons to Swat and arrested the accused.

A police spokesman said on a tip-off the police personnel condoned off the Kohat Road and impounded a car in the limits of Badbher police station.

Three Kalashnikovs, 2 repeaters, 1 rifle, 5 pistols, 20 chargers, and 6,505 cartridges were recovered from the secret cavities of the vehicle, the spokesman said.

The weapons, he said, were being smuggled from Darra Adamkhel to Swat. A case against the accused Ashfaq, Minhaj and Riaz Khan, residents of Badbher area, had been registered.

Meanwhile, the police also claimed to have arrested a member of a gang allegedly involved in street crimes and recovered Rs2,720 and a mobile telephone set they had snatched on gunpoint from the complainant Purdil Khan, resident of Daman Hindki.— Bureau Report
