CANBERRA, March 5: Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds will face no action after he knocked over a streaker in his side’s nine-run loss to India during the second tri-series final in Brisbane on Tuesday.
David Ogilvie stormed the field and ran towards Symonds, who shoulder-charged him to the ground before the naked Ogilvie was led off by police and security guards.
“He was dealing with self-preservation which we support 100 percent,” Cricket Australia’s Michael Brown told reporters in Canberra. “Andrew was in the zone and was severely threatened.”
Ogilvie, 26, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Magistrates Court to interfering with persons engaged in sport and wilful exposure on Wednesday.
He was fined A$1,500 ($1,402) but no conviction was recorded. Police told Australian Associated Press they had not received a complaint about Symonds’ actions.—Reuters
