KARACHI, March 5: Fancied five-year-old bay The Conqueror’s lived up to his top billing by making it two on the trot as owner Benish Hassan ended the day on a happy note with a back-to-back double in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

The victory of favourite The Conqueror’s was very much on the card following his return to form and he does it registering a stunning 10 length’s victory over Rokara to land the opener.

Trained by Mushtaq Ali Khan, he was steered to victory in style by rider Kashif Qamar.

Thanks Naeem was pushed to third place by a length and a quarter while Terrorist completed the board.

The day, however, revolved around the owner-trainer duo (Benish Hassan and Ameer Ahmed) as colt On Looker and bay Fascinate claimed the last two races.

Ridden by jockey Waheed, On Looker made amends beating Daruwala by half-a-length in the fifth race while rider Rehan Ahmed powered speedy Fascinate to three-quarter-of-a-length’s victory in the concluding event.

Seven-year-old mare Afroze Jehan stretched her winning streak when she edged favourite mare Abhi Abhi by a short head to capture the feature event. They were followed by stable mates Cash Flow and Stormy Kiss.

With Ghulam Shabbir II in the saddle, the 40 to 100 favourite Abhi Abhi was left at the gate and showed remarkable recovery to be beaten in a photo-finish.

Second favourite filly Moon Baby posted a facile 10 lengths victory over filly Shu Manter in the third as favourite filly Flawless Victory was not allowed to run on merit and failed to finish on the board.

Four-year-old bay filly Midnight Furry surprised all and sundry outpacing filly Jadu Jantar by three-and-a-half lengths to win the fourth race. Favourite Mr Mention Not settled for third while Sweet Grandy completed the frame.

The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Sunday.
