RAWALPINDI, March 5: The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench on Wednesday issued notices to City District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas in a petition seeking permission for holding a conference in Liaquat Bagh by a religious organisation.
Justice Mohammad Akram Qureshi directed the nazim to submit his reply in this regard on Thursday (today).
Making the nazim as respondent, Raja Asif of Jamaat-i-Ahle Sunnat Rawalpindi chapter in his petition stated that they wanted to organise a “Sunni conference” in Liaquat Bagh on March 9 and submitted an application to the district nazim on February 27.
He said his party had started arrangements for the event after receiving verbal permission from the nazim.
We sent invitations to 3,000 religious scholars across the country, but the district nazim suddenly informed us on February 29 that permission cannot be granted to hold the conference in Liaquat Bagh on security grounds.— A Reporter
