KARACHI, March 5: The President of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) and former chief minister of Balochistan, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, was taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Wednesday amid tight security for further tests recommended by doctors.

Earlier on Monday, he was brought to the NICVD amid heavy security for the first time since his incarceration at the Karachi Central Jail in December 2006.

During his stay at the hospital, law-enforcement officials, including jail police, area police and operatives of the Military Intelligence, were present on the hospital premises. The panel of three doctors treating the former Balochistan chief minister avoided making comments.—Staff Reporter
