KARACHI, March 4: Fancied five-year-old bay The Conqueror’s who has returned to form after a long layoff looks certain to rule the field when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.
He claimed long overdue victory by posting a facile four length’s victory over John Player under rider Asghar Ali in the last run on Feb 24.
Eleven horses are left in contention for the honours in the five furlongs opener which is also the supporting event following the scratching of Chaleswan Chur and Desert Hawk.
Apart from colt The Ghazan Prince and bay Rokara, stable-mates Terrorist and Sweetie Pie belonging to Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara comes in the reckoning and if tried, are quite capable to pull-off an upset.
Either of the two — four-year-old bay colt Cash Flow or five-year-old dark bay mare Stormy Kiss is set to land the feature event which is the second race on the card.
Owned by the club’s administrator Haji Khuda Bux Rajar, both enjoy an excellent track record and on paper they look sound to repeat their winning feat.
They are likely to be chased by Savabeel and Abhi Abhi for the places in a field of seven barring last minute withdrawls.
Three-year-old bay filly Flawless Victory should make amends by presenting her owner with a winner in the next race. Moon Baby and Sing Sing are likely to follow her for a place on the board.
Four-year-old chestnut colt Mr Mention Not who was narrowly beaten to second place by Moon Baby in his last outing, should grab the fourth, so does five-year-old mare Little Girl the sixth.
Whoever is backed by owner Irfan Mehdi — colt With Interest or mare Make Millions is likely to reign supreme in the fifth.
A card of six races — first four to be gone over five furlongs and the following two to four-and-a-half furlongs — have been chalked out for the day. The first race gets into action at 2.00pm.
