LARKANA, March 4: Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Khan Parvez Chang on Tuesday sentenced a police sub-inspector to six-month rigorous imprisonment and initiating contempt of court proceedings against him.
Police officer Abdul Nabi Kandhro was later sent to Central Prison Larkana.
The convicted police officer had arrested Mohammed Alam Mughiri along with two others on January 18 in a post-December 27 violence case. They were produced in the court where the judge due to lack of evidence released them.
The sub-inspector who heads the investigation office in Dokri, in violation of court orders picked Mohammed Alam and detained him at an undisclosed location. He was tortured, kept in illegal detention and released on February 14, said the court sources.
Agitating over police excesses Akhtair Ali Mughiri, brother of the victim, approached the court with the request to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the sub-inspector.
The case came up for hearing on Tuesday when the complainant, victim and the police officer appeared in the court.
The judge passed the order of six months’ rigorous imprisonment to sub-inspector and sent him to jail.
