HYDERABAD, March 4: On the intervention of Hyderabad district nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil the irrigation authorities have released water downstream Kotri as due to the non-release the water had become contaminated.
Water and Sanitation Agency managing director Mohammad Basheer Awan said in a statement on Tuesday that due to the non-release of water downstream Kotri barrage for quite some time and bathing of buffaloes in river bed, the stagnant water had become contaminated.
He said that the Wasa had stopped lifting water from Indus River for its water works located in Hussainabad and Latifabad and made temporary arrangements to supply drinking water from its filter plants.
He, however, said that due to the intervention of the district nazim the irrigation authorities have released fresh water downstream Kotri which has improved the quality of water. He said the district police had been approached to stop the entry of buffaloes in the river to maintain the water quality.
TRAINING: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that with the help of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and SIM4COM, teachers would be provided training to improve their skills and standard of education in the government run English medium schools.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at district nazim secretariat on Monday which was attended by DCO Syed Barkat Rizvi, Sindh NCHD director operations Sohail Rajput, SIM4COM chief executive officer Mohammad Ali Millwala, EDO education Professor Anwar Siddique, educational officers and others.
The meeting was informed that it was a unique training programme through which the teachers would be enabled to enhance their skills to impart better education to students.
It was told that the SIM4COM in cooperation with different international organisations was imparting training and teachers of many countries had benefited from such training courses.
The NCHD representative said that in order to ensure the enrolment of children of up to nine year age in schools, it had conducted a survey during the first phase in 15 rural union councils of Hyderabad.
He said due to these efforts 32,833 students had been enrolled in the primary schools so far.
