KARACHI, March 2: Promising Sameer Tayyab had a mixed day on Sunday when he progressed in one category and was eliminated in another of the second Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club.
He sneaked into the juniors’ under-17 singles next round after defeating Noor-ur-Rehman in three gruelling sets. He was home 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-2.
Appearing in his second match hours later in the boys’ under-15 singles first round, Sameer went down in straight sets 2-6, 3-6 to Farhan Mustafa.
Omer Osman, however, won in both events as he marched into the quarter-finals of the juniors’ under-17 singles and won in the boys’ under-15 singles opener.
His victim in the juniors was Muneeb Khan who despite a rigorous fight went down in three sets. Osman who joined Omer Shahid and Abdul Rehman in the last eight, conceded the opening set 4-6 before recovering to win the next two 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
In boys’ under-15 singles, he had a convincing 6-0, 6-1 sailing over Afzal Ali.
