Man shot dead, niece injured

KASUR, March 2: Assailants shot dead a man and injured his niece in the B-Division police precinct late on Saturday.

Reports said Mohsin Ali was on way home along with his niece, Sana (18), when some armed men opened fire on them. Mohsin died on the spot while Sana suffered bullet injuries. She was taken to the DHQ hospital from where she was referred to the Lahore General Hospital owing to her critical condition.

The police registered a case and launched investigation into the blind murder.

POLICEMAN HURT:A police official was seriously injured in an encounter with robbers in Pattoki Saddar police station area on Saturday night.

Reports said Saddar police SHO Malik Tariq, along with a police party, was patrolling and tried to stop a motorcycle (LWG-5250) the riders of which responded with firing. The policemen, too, resorted to firing and the exchange of fire intensified within no time. In the hour-long encounter, one of the officials, Asif Akram, was injured. The gangsters made good their escape.

The police identified the three as Khalid, Ashraf and Pervez, residents of Chak 38. According to the police, the three youngsters had borrowed the motorcycle from a friend of the same village. A case was instituted against them.

ROBBERIES: Gun-toting men robbed the citizens of cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in different parts of the city.

Four armed men boarded a van (LHP-5945) at DHQ hospital chowk and deprived the passengers of Rs80,000 in cash, 15 cell phones and other valuables. They got down at some distance from the city.

In another incident, three robbers deprived two brothers of their motorcycle and cell phones besides cash in the jurisdiction of Gandasingh police station. Rehmat Ali and his brother, Zafar Ali, were on way to Nayakay when three armed men stopped them and snatched Rs7,000 in cash and two cell phones, also driving away with their two-wheeler.

A gang of five robbers stormed Muhammad Ishaq’s house at Allahabad and took away cash and valuables.
