GCCI decries rise in POL prices

Published March 3, 2008

GUJRANWALA, March 2: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), transporters, agriculturists and civil society members decried the hike in POL prices.

At a meeting held here under the chairmanship of GCCI president Riaz Mehmood Bajwa, the speakers said the electricity and gas crises had already affected greatly the national economy while recent increase in POL prices would further hollow its roots. They said the caretakers should have left the all-important decision of hike in prices to the elected representatives.

They demanded of the caretakers to withdraw the decision immediately as rise in POL prices would increase the prices of every commodity bringing further miseries to the people. Transporters demanded that the fares should also be enhanced as they were already under the cloud. — Correspondent
