LAHORE, March 1: Makhdoom Amin Fahim said on Saturday he had been nominated as party’s candidate for the office of prime minister at a meeting at Naudero after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
Talking to Dawn, he said Mr Asif Ali Zardari had also announced at the meeting that the party’s central executive committee would take a decision.
“No meeting of the CEC has been held so far,” he said, adding: that reports being circulated by the media at present were nothing but mala fide”.
Mr Faheem said it was the PPP-Parliamentarians, of which he was the president, which had won the Feb 18 polls and had the right to form government.
Mr Zardari, he said, was the co-chairman of the PPP led by Ms Bhutto.
He said now a decision on who would be the candidate for the prime minister would be taken through consultations between him and Mr Zardari. Asked if he would accept any decision different from the one announced at Naudero, he said: “It would be too early to make any comment”.
