Lawyers to step up protest if Aitzaz not released

SUKKUR, March 1: Supreme Court Bar Association Vice-President and Sindh High Court Bar Associations President Imdad Ali Awan has warned the government of protests, hunger strikes and arrests by lawyers if Supreme Court Bar Association President Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan was not released on March 2 (today) after completing his 30-day detention.

Talking to media at Sukkur Press Club on Saturday Mr Imdad said that according to the law, Chaudhry Aitzaz should be released on March 2, and if he was not released then the lawyers would resort to strong agitation.

He said Chaudhry Aitzaz was scheduled to visit Sukkur on Monday.

Mr Imdad appealed to the lawyers’ community, members’ of civil society, and people from all walks of life to accord warm welcome to Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan on his arrival at Sukkur airport.

Sindh High Court Bar Association General Secretary Ghulam Shabbir Shar, Sukkur District Bar Association President Qurban Malano and others were present on the occasion.

GIRL KIDNAPPED: A minor girl was kidnapped by armed men over a matrimonial dispute from village Bachoo Daro in the jurisdiction of Dad Leghari police station near Mirpur Mathelo on Saturday.

The armed men barged into the house of a widow, Ms Moran, and at gunpoint kidnapped her minor daughter Nasima 12.

According to the area people the motive for the kidnapping was a matrimonial dispute. No FIR was registered of the case.
